About this page
This page shows the complete panchang for Delhi today: tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga, karana, sunrise and sunset, Rahu Kaal, choghadiya and the day's muhurats. All times are in Indian Standard Time and the page switches to the new date at midnight on its own. If you are in another city, use "Change city" above; every sunrise-based time moves with the city.
The five limbs of the panchang
Tithi is the lunar day: each time the Moon gains another 12° on the Sun, a tithi ends, so a lunar month has 30 tithis of roughly 19 to 26 hours each. Vara, the weekday, runs from sunrise to sunrise. Nakshatra is the Moon's position among 27 equal divisions of the sky (13°20′ each). Yoga comes from the sum of the Sun's and Moon's sidereal longitudes, and a karana is half a tithi.
The tithi of a day is the one in force at sunrise (udaya tithi). So "tithi today" above is the tithi at Delhi's sunrise (6:16 AM), even if it changes later in the day. Sometimes a tithi touches two sunrises (vriddhi) and sometimes one begins and ends between two sunrises (kshaya); we flag both on the page.
Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika
All three are found by dividing daytime, sunrise to sunset, into eight equal parts; the weekday decides which part belongs to which period. Rahu Kaal is the 2nd part on Monday, 3rd on Saturday, 4th on Friday, 5th on Wednesday, 6th on Thursday, 7th on Tuesday and 8th on Sunday. That is why Rahu Kaal in Delhi today (7:44 AM – 9:12 AM) can differ from other cities by several minutes.
Choghadiya and muhurat
Choghadiya splits the day and the night into eight parts each. Amrit, Shubh and Labh are considered good, Char is neutral (good for travel), and Udveg, Kaal and Rog are avoided for new beginnings. Abhijit is the 8th of the day’s 15 muhurtas, around midday (not taken on Wednesdays). Brahma Muhurat is the hour before sunrise traditionally kept for prayer, meditation and study.
How this panchang is made
Nothing here is copied from another website. Sun and Moon positions are calculated astronomically and checked against NASA JPL’s DE440 ephemeris; the ayanamsa is Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the one used by the Government of India’s Rashtriya Panchang. Sunrise is the moment the upper edge of the Sun appears on the horizon. The full method is on our methodology page. If a time looks wrong, tell us; every fix is logged publicly.

Why do different panchangs show different times?
Three reasons are most common: the city (sunrise differs everywhere), the definition of sunrise (upper edge or centre of the Sun), and the month system (Purnimanta in North India, Amanta in Maharashtra, Gujarat and the South). The moment a tithi or nakshatra ends is the same across India; only sunrise-based times change.
